Art from the Margins - Street to Street Art Exhibition

On Thursday afternoons over the last five months we have invited street artists Morgan, Robert, Mark and Wayne in to teach art to the Credo Café community. From indigenous artist Morgan we have learned to draw totemic animals, from line artist Robert we have tried to copy his extremely difficult and intricate line drawing method, from the focus of Mark we have explored ways of drawing cats and from the inspiration of Wayne we have been focusing on drawing trees.

You might have seen some of these artists on the street, mainly at night. Morgan can be found outside the Arts Centre. Robert is normally outside Vodafone on Swanston Street. Mark draws cats on the pavement on Swanston by Flinders Lane. Wayne draws and sells beautiful cards outside Myer during the day.

Art from the Margins - Street to Street Art Exhibition, honours the creativity and teaching skills of our street artists and the essential creativity of the Credo Café community. We believe everyone is creative because we are made in the image of God and the first thing God did was create. Our practice acknowledges the acceptance of each for the other (and consequently self-acceptance), and the quiet, focused, mutual companionability that develops around the art table at Credo. While growing in community with street artists who are new to Credo, we take pride in the development of artistic skills and completing art works. Last but certainly not least, we look forward to the artists making a little money from our activities!

Come and share the opening with us 6pm on July 15th, or visit during the week. All works are for sale, very reasonably priced. Thank you for reading this.
