Secondary School Seminars
Urban Seed currently visits and is visited by secondary schools throughout Victoria (with an emphasis on Melbou
rne based schools) and presents on urban issues such as homelessness, alcohol and drug abuse, violence, poverty, and our work with people affected by these issues.
Urban Seed’s attraction is its hands on experience with these issues and street culture that allows us to share anecdotes and stories that bring urban issues alive for students, help breakdown stereotypes and promote consideration of the risks associated with drug abuse and wider cultural issues.
In 2004 Urban Seed spoke to more than 10,000 secondary school students through running interactive walks around the city and presenting creative at school seminars aimed at complementing curriculum needs.

This seminar provides information on homelessness and substance abuse from our unique perspective of frontline work in the inner city. It tells the story of Urban Seed and how we have responded to these issues. It encourages students to critique different models of response to these issues and to consider their own responses. Finally, it empowers people to create “home” for themselves.
