City Life
A two to five day intensive city experience
‘City Life’ builds on the popular ‘The City is our Home’ walk
and seminar and enables students to engage more deeply
with some of the contemporary social issues arising from
life in the heart of Melbourne.
Utilising the Urban Classroom "The Den"
in Little Bourke Street, the Urban Seed
School Engagement team has developed
a selection of interactive seminars and
simulations that encourage students to
deepen their understanding of the key
concepts underpinning complex issues such
as addiction, safety, inclusion and exclusion,
homelessness and gambling.
Each day focuses on a different issue and
students are invited to gather information,
analyse its significance on a personal and
societal level, and respond intellectually an
creatively.
Day One introduces the key themes, and then schools may nominate up to four other days to follow through on the issues of their choice.
Day 1: City is our Home
An introduction to homelessness in the city.
Day 2: Who's The Addict
Drugs, addiction and life.
Day 3: Ins and Outs of Melbourne
Inclusion and exclusion in the city.
Day 4: What are the Odds?
A gambling simulation.
Day 5: Branded!
Branding and Identity in a consumer world.
Day 6: You're More than your Score
