Reclink Footy Grand Final
August 26, 2005
Credo Community legend Emma Groves receives her premiership medallion from Rob Butters (St Kilda Footy Club President) after having kicked a goal for the "Hearters" (Sacred Heart Mission) in their final. Whilst Urban Seed has never been big enough to field a team, the Reclink Footy Grand Final Day is a great event for so many people and an important cultural event in the calanders of many welfare organisations around Melbourne. It was great catching up with so many Credo people...
In my modern rewrite of the gospel called "The Gospel of Vic" I used the tradition of footy as a contested religious idea and a metaphor of true community.....It's days like this that inspire it! More pics below....
David Bryce in the Hearters huddle ponders how the hell this prepares him for working with street kids in Cambodia next year...
Daz, Koos and Boony ponder the deep meanings of footy...
Jackson and Ewen ponder running amok...
Boony ponders Woodsy's credentials as the Hearters "runner"...
Sarah ponders motherhood...a footy widow!?
Father Terry from Sacred Heart Mission ponders whether Ratzinger might be up for a kick during World Youth Day, 2008.
Kaz, Ruth and Tomsy ponder their interest in footy...
The 614 Salvos from up the road ponder their own final...

Recfooty Curnows
February 26, 2005
The Big Footy Bulldogs had a win over the Western Bulldogs Admin Staff last Monday by 11 points! I kicked four goals in windy conditions, they were all going to miss but the wind made them crooked! I told one of the Doggies staff that Dougie Hawkins had taught me to kick em like that at the Whitten Oval! He wasn't overly impressed. One highlight was having Rach come down for her first game and having my sister Rin in from Cornwall. Another highlight was finding out that our full forward Jim's surname is also Curnow!!!!....In fact we found out most of the team has Cornish heritage....have to rename to Big Kernow Bulldogs I reckon!

Rec. Footy Rocks!
February 01, 2005

Walking my boys home from the park in Footscray last night I heard whistles from the Whitten Oval. Thinking we could check out the Doggies training I instead discovered Recreational Footy, the new "game for everyone", non contact, mixed comp. Sort of like an aussie rules version of touch footy. Finally a inclusive version of footy free of local blokey club "Footy comes first" culture which demands your whole body, mind and soul! One team was short a player, so leaving the boys in the grandstand I jumped in and had a run. My adopted team "The Big Footy Bulldogs" got pumped 76 to nothing. A couple of women in the opposition dominated with the modified rules....very fast, very humbling..... but I had an absolute ball. I only know one of my teammates names (Carl )but they desperately want me back next week! Stay tuned for next Mondays results, get a team, get into it!!.

'Homer' Rule for Cornwall
January 20, 2005

'Rydhsys rag Kernow lemmyn' (Freedom for Cornwall now), crys Lisa on a special Simpson Christmas message made especially for the UK recieving worldwide publicity for the Cornish cause.
Warlinenn - A Cornish Language site devoted a page to Lisa!...another chat room I visited promoted Cornish Language classes in the "strong Australian diaspora" which was cool cause I've done some!!! The best comment I've seen was on the Mebyon Kernow political party homepage.
Of the London papers, The Guardian, The Independent, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Mail and The Times all covered the story. Predictably, The Sun managed to come up with the headline ‘Simpsons get corny.’
None of these papers managed any serious commentary on the future prospects for the Cornish language or the campaign for a Cornish Assembly. That was not surprising.
The campaign for a Cornish Assembly has, so far, been largely ignored by the London press. Even in 2001, when evidence for 50,000 declarations was taken to Downing St, the campaign met with complete metropolitan indifference. The event was only covered by one London paper – the Morning Star. One newspaper journalist had stated, in an email, ‘this is probably the most significant political story to have come out of Cornwall in decades …’ His publication however, along with all the other newspapers and magazines failed to cover the story.
And yet, when it is reported that a cartoon character is going to wave a cartoon flag and utter a phrase in Cornish, there has been a media furore. What a stark contrast to the lack of serious reporting of Cornish political issues.

Kernow Moonta March
December 04, 2004
![]()
Just found a photo of me marching for the Cornish cause at the 2003 Kernewek Lowender, the worlds biggest Cornish festival held every two years in Moonta, South Australia. I'm holding the banner on far right. Lovely Cornish weather that day! Check out the festivities at www.kernewek.org to prove that non Anglo diaspora identity is still going strong. Kernow bys Vyken, Onan hag Oll! (Cornwall for Ever, One and All!)
