Geelong

For the last few years we have been exploring what Urban Seed-style community projects would look like in Norlane, Geelong, one of the lowest socio-economic areas in Victoria.

The Baptist Union of Victoria agreed to the use of the old Norlane Baptist Church facility out of which our community development and youth work can operate. Urban Seed has been facilitating community meals on Monday nights in The Longroom with an average of 40-50 people attending.

We would like to acknowledge United Way Geelong for their financial support.

Residency

Our Geelong project incorporates a residency compenent according to the same vein as residency in the CBD. Interns live on the premises, engaging authentically with the local area and offering hospitality.

Incarnational mission has the following aims:
  • To give young adults an experience of Christian community and incarnational mission, especially amongst the marginalised;
  • To explore a Biblical understanding of holistic mission;
  • To provide basic Christian youth & community work skills.

It entails:
  • 12 month commitment
  • Part-time study/work
  • Participation in the Christian community of the household
  • Action/reflection learning
